Ag economist keeping an eye on how potential tariffs could impact trade
An ag economist says there could be some disruptions to trade in 2025.
Tyler Cozzens, with the Livestock Marketing Information Center, tells Brownfield…
“There’s definitely been some talk about tariffs. That can be a headwind to things moving forward.”
He says how potential tariffs may be implemented is uncertain.
“I think if we kind of take a little bit of the playbook from Trump’s first administration, he did battle some things on the trade front with tariffs but he did offset some of that with market facilitation payments, so I think that’s something we’ll be watching,” he says.
Cozzens says he expects ag exports to move slightly lower based on tighter cattle inventory while imports are expected to move slightly higher.
Brownfield interviewed Cozzens at the Nebraska Beef Summit near Mead, Nebraska.
