Ag economist studies trends in seed corn

An ag economist is examining the correlation in seed prices and corn population.

Michael Langemeier with Purdue University’s Center for Commerical Agriculture says there is a strong relationship between seed cost and seed prices.

“Plant populations also have had an impact on increasing seed costs overtime,” he says. “When you see those steady increases in plant populations, that’s going to that’s going to cost you more money per acre.”

He says farmers should give careful consideration to plant populations, because it can impact seed costs.
