Ag groups push for Japanese trade deal
A coalition of nearly 90 ag groups is urging the U.S Trade Representative to finalize a trade deal with Japan.
The groups say regional and bilateral agreements between Japan and other countries are putting U.S. exporters of wheat, beef, pork, dairy, wine, potatoes, fruits and vegetables at an increasing disadvantage.
They’re asking for at least equal market provisions that are in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific-Partnership and the European Union-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement.
Japan is the fourth largest U.S. ag export market.
Japan’s Prime Minister and President Trump are expected to meet later this week in D.C.
