Ag PhD Field Day underway in South Dakota

The 2024 Ag PhD Field Day got underway Thursday near Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

South Dakota farmer Brian Hefty, who also cohosts Ag PhD Radio, says they bring a range of industry experts to their operation to help farmers with management decisions.

“We have always liked having people come to our farm so they can see some of the research we’re doing, see some of our equipment, and just what we’re dealing with here in South Dakota because it’s definitely different than Iowa or Illinois or some of these other states.”

He tells Brownfield some of the strategies could be implemented during the 2024 growing season or future crop years.

“We just like going into the details of, ‘okay, well, why does this thing work, why does that thing not work, when should we be planting, what should we be doing for seeding rates and all these different things?’ So, we don’t care exactly what a farmer does. We’re just here to help.”
