Ag policy expert hoping for momentum to advance farm bill
An ag policy expert says he wants to see Congress act soon on the farm bill.
Jordan Dux with the Nebraska Farm Bureau tells Brownfield many ag groups are in Washington, D.C. this week lobbying lawmakers to take action before the end of the year.
“We’re trying to build momentum now to get us into the lame duck to see if we can get something across the finish line and if we don’t, certainly we’re talking about this next year,” he says.
Dux says Nebraska Farm Bureau would like to see funding doubled for trade promotion programs.
“They allow organizations like the U.S. Meat Export Federation and the U.S. Grains Council to get the money to help find the customers to really try to find the individual businesses and customers who want to go and buy our ag products and lead to the actual monetary shipment of these products,” he says.
Dux says some of the politics surrounding the farm bill could go away once the election is over.
Brownfield interviewed Dux during the 2024 Husker Harvest Days, near Grand Island, Nebraska.
