Ag uncertainty deepens challenges for new and beginning farmers
Uncertainty in agriculture is making it even more difficult for new and beginning farmers.
Minnesota Soybean Growers Association treasurer Rose Karau says the ag economy is in a multi-year slump and the outlook for next year seems bleak.
“It’s super, what’s the word I would use? Uncertain.”
She tells Brownfield access to land remains highly competitive.
“If you are able to find a homestead that you can start some kind of livestock operation doing direct sales or just for your family, you’ll get familiar with the cattle (or other) small ruminants. You’ll get familiar with using equipment, and start building your net worth and equity.”
Karau says Minnesota Soybean is offering an emerging farmer workshop in January as part of the MN Ag Expo in Mankato.
