Agriculture is on display at the 2019 Ohio State Fair

Ohio State Fair attendees are learning about ethanol, water quality, technology in agriculture, and more when they walk through the newly redesigned Land and Living exhibit.

Ohio Farm Bureau and many ag partners unveiled a new and highly interactive Land and Living exhibit this year. Visitors can experience planting crops in a tractor simulator, a sow birthing center, shopping in an interactive grocery store, and more.

Brad Reynolds, communications director with Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association, says they are hoping to get consumers engaged in the story of Ohio agriculture.

“Consumers hear a lot of talk- they have questions and are unsure what farmers are actually doing and why they’re doing it,” he says. “That’s why we have farmers and staff on hand to answer questions and really we just want to connect with consumers.”

Ty Higgins, director of media relations and spokesperson for Ohio Farm Bureau, says the state fair is the closest some people will get to a farm, which is why it’s a great opportunity to share the story of agriculture.

“There are so many misconceptions about agriculture- not just how we grow food and how we raise livestock, but also about farmers getting payments from the government, whether it be for disaster relief or for sour trade deals with China,” he says. “Some people question why farmers are getting this help, but the truth is if farmers didn’t get this kind of assistance, they might not be farming in 2020.”

The Nationwide Donahey Land and Living Building is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Sunday, August 4.

Exhibit sponsors are Ohio Farm Bureau, Nationwide, Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, Ohio Corn and Wheat, Ohio Soybean Council, American Dairy Association Mideast, and Ohio Poultry Association.
