Agronomist hearing strong harvest optimism in Iowa
An extension agronomist says harvest could pick up steam in parts of Iowa as early as next week.
Iowa State University’s Meaghan Anderson says some central Iowa farmers have high expectations for their corn and soybean crops. “The farmers I’ve talked with have pretty strong feelings about the crop. And I do too. I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how this is some of the best crop they’ve seen.”
But she tells Brownfield, “I am not forgetting how much of a struggle it was this spring to get planted and then replanted in some cases. And in other cases, things didn’t get replanted. There are parts of these fields that could be in much rougher shape than things look from the road.”
Anderson says now is a good time to scout for weeds under the canopy that could be managed ahead of harvest.
