Agronomist: Recent weather favorable across Iowa

Some Midwestern farmers keep getting the moisture they’ve been needing.

Meaghan Anderson, extension agronomist with Iowa State University, says most of Iowa recently received some crop-saving rains.

“That made a big difference in our crop as far as being able to finish things out and it came kind of right in the nick of time, maybe a little bit later than we would have ideally had, but really going to help fill out those corn kernels and finish out the soybeans.”

She tells Brownfield crop conditions are favorable, but diseases like tar spot continue to be a concern.

“It’s really just a matter of watching what happens here as we get toward the later part of the season where we’ve got cooler temperatures and more dewy mornings, where it’s going to be more ideal for its spread.”

Anderson says she recommends scouting fields late in the denting stage.
