Agronomist says burndown program can help farmers this growing season

An agronomist with La Crosse Seed says farmers should have a burndown program in place this spring to control weeds.

But, Scott Wohltman says cool and wet conditions could delay application.

“Given the time of year that we’re in, March to April,  we have a lot of wet weather,” he says. “I think it’s interesting for folks to understand how those delayed applications could affect their plans.”

He tells Brownfield delays could also impact cover crop decisions this fall.

“I would encourage growers to get out the information they have, get out their goals, make sure they understand what they want to plant this fall, and make sure it coincides with the plans they have in place this spring,” he says.

Wohltman says these management decisions can help farmers improve their bottom line.

He spoke to Brownfield at a cover crop field day in Preble County in western Ohio.
