Dekalb ASGROW FSR says weather has made it a hard year

A Dekalb field service rep says farmers in her area have seen the extremes when it comes to weather.

Kentucky-based Shelby Wright says while many areas were delayed, most crops made it into the ground.

“I know it wasn’t as ideal conditions as a lot of people were obviously wanting,” she says. “My area has the Ohio River that goes through it. So of course with water and the rainfall that we got, there was. Lots of replants.”

And she tells Brownfield…

“Guys had just planted their beans the end of June and so they were questioning in July,” she says. “Do I replant these beans because they’re drowning out here. So I’d say that it’s really across the board. Some areas are drier than others.”

Wright says the growing season isn’t done yet – and crops still have the opportunity for above average yields.
