AG’s in Iowa and Kansas call for summertime E15 sales

Attorneys general in Iowa and Kansas are calling on the EPA to allow summertime sales of E15.

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller tells Brownfield a letter has been sent to Administrator Regan asking that regulations prohibiting E15 sales from June 1st to September 15th be waived.

“So that consumers are given some relief from the enormous increase in gas prices. Also it would cut down on emissions, and help us in terms of energy security and less foreign sales. So there’d be three wins.”

The letter was sent Tuesday and Miller says he and Kansas AG Derek Schmidt are hoping for a quick response.

“Ordinarily Derek and I would circulate this to the rest of the AG’s to get a sign on, and we still may do that. But we thought maybe the decision would be made quickly, so we wanted to get on record as AG’s and as a Democrat and a Republican with the EPA administrator.”

Iowa and Kansas are among the nation’s top ethanol producers.
