Ah-ha moments: farm groups share the story of modern agriculture at Minnesota State Fair

Farm groups use the state fair to enlighten the public about modern agriculture. 

Ruth Meirick with Minnesota Farm Bureau says they’ve created an interactive experience at their booth at the Minnesota State Fair.

“We get a lot of ‘ah ha’s’ like I didn’t realize something that was connected to beef cattle, I didn’t realize that adhesives were connected to the pork industry.”

Minnesota pork producer Abbie Redalen engaged with visitors of the pig barn asking about a sow with her litter.

“They start out with ‘when were the piglets born? or how many piglets are in this litter?’ But a lot of those questions also evolve into a lot of questions about their feeding and how they’re resting.”

And the new Princess Kay, Jena Hanson, says she’s excited to advocate on behalf of Minnesota dairy farmers.

“To be able to make a connection and really strengthen those ties, so that all of our consumers understand our producers and vice versa.”
