AI expected could reshape agronomic decision-making

An agronomist says the role of artificial intelligence will have a larger role in the future of ag production.

Ryan Wolf with WinField United says some farmers are already using the technology, but more could be done with it. “It’s going to increase production. It’s all about ROI and that’s about increasing bushels out there today.”

He tells Brownfield its accuracy and efficiency will help farmers make better agronomic decisions. “If you think about soil samples, yield maps, ariel imagery, how do you combine that data and actually get the right information going forward? That’s where AI will play a key role in helping us in the future.”

But, Wolf says, it doesn’t come without risks. “It’s about having trusted platforms and trusted advisors to share that data with going forward. Sharing anything with the cloud these days, you have to be careful. This is why we’re building platforms today that are closed-looped platforms where we can learn off of each other and not share them with the world.”

He says farmers who are hesitant to use AI should start experimenting to get more comfortable with it and work with a trusted advisor.
