Airbus joins Minnesota Sustainable Aviation Fuel Hub

A global airplane manufacturer is partnering with the Minnesota Sustainable Aviation Fuel Hub.

Greater MSP Partnership CEO Peter Frosch says French company Airbus has agreed to invest as the airline industry attempts to decarbonize jet fuel.

“It’s a great indication that we are on the leading edge not only nationally but globally in solving this really hard problem, and having a partner like Airbus will bring lots of new insight and assets and connections to aid in this problem-solving effort.”

Airbus joins Delta Airlines, Bank of America, and Cargill, as corporate backers of Minnesota’s SAF Hub, which announced last year plans for two SAF processing facilities in the state.

“Because we’re maybe a little further along than other places in figuring this out, having to work nationally and internationally to develop solutions to big questions like how do you value SAF? How do you ensure farmers get paid and they know how much they’re going to get paid?”

SAF processing facilities are in the works for Moorhead and Rosemount, Minnesota.

Frosch tells Brownfield the hope is that one or both plants will be operational by 2030.
