Another down week for broilers

Broiler hatchery data continues to point to tighter supplies of chicken later this year as the industry tries to improve profitability.

The USDA says 237.683 million broiler type eggs were placed into incubators last week, 1% below a year ago, with average hatchability steady at just over 80%.

Placements of broiler type chicks into meat production were 179.473 million head, 2% less than last year, with 2023-to-date placements down 1% on the year.

The USDA’s updated annual broiler production outlook is scheduled for Friday, December 8th.

Arkansas: Sets: 23.912 million eggs, compared to 23.645 million a week ago; Placements: 21.21 million head, compared to 20.877 million last week

Kentucky: Sets: 6.979 million eggs, compared to 6.504 million a week ago; Placements: 5.468 million head, compared to 5.468 million last week

Missouri: Sets: 8.448 million eggs, compared to 8.812 million a week ago; Placements: 13.465 million head, compared to 12.519 million last week

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 13.626 million eggs, compared to 13.745 million a week ago; Placements: 11.419 million head, compared to 10.951 million last week
