Another dry week for crops in Arkansas

Dry conditions continued in Arkansas, where farmers are making progress with the harvest.

Ninety-six percent of the state’s corn is mature with 73% now harvested.  Nearly all corn in Arkansas has reached at least the dent stage.

Eighty-three percent of the cotton bolls are opening, which is a big jump from last week’s 68%.  Twenty-five percent of the cotton crop is rated excellent, and 52% is rated good.

Ninety-six percent of the second-crop hay has been cut.  Just 32% of the hay is rated good to excellent.

Fourteen percent of the Arkansas peanut crop has been dug, with 3% harvested.  Thirty-seven percent of the crop is rated excellent and 49% is rated good.

Ninety-five percent of the rice crop is mature, with 56% of that crop now harvested.

Soybean pod setting is finished, and 72% of the Arkansas soybeans are coloring with 59% dropping leaves.  Forty-eight percent of the soybeans are mature, and 24% of the crop is already in the bin.
