Another up week for broiler hatchery numbers

Broiler hatchery numbers continue to point to larger supplies later this year.

The USDA says 246.559 million eggs went into incubation last week, slightly higher than a week ago and up 1% from a year ago, with the average hatchability rate remaining around 79%.

Placements of hatched chicks into the meat production system were 190.38 million head, also up slightly on the week and 2% above last year, with those chickens moving to market in late June and early July.

The USDA’s updated annual broiler production projection is out Friday.

Comparisons for Brownfield states:

Arkansas: Sets: 25.76 million eggs, compared to 25.961 million a week ago; Placements: 21.259 million head, compared to 21.087 million last week

Kentucky: Sets: 7.861 million eggs, compared to 8.017 million a week ago; Placements: 5.823 million head, compared to 5.655 million last week

Missouri: Sets: 8.55 million eggs, compared to 8.766 million a week ago; Placements: 5.265 million head, compared to 5.119 million last week

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 13.754 million eggs, compared to 13.575 million a week ago; Placements: 12.483 million head, compared to 12.859 million last week
