Another up week for broiler sets, placements

Broiler sets and placements have risen seven weeks in a row.

The USDA says 245.393 million eggs went into incubation last week, 1.388 million less than the previous week, but up 2% on the year, with average hatchability at 79.1%.

189.354 million chicks were placed into meat production, about 501,000 below the week before, but 1% above last year, heading to market in June.

The USDA’s next broiler production update is out May 10th.

Arkansas: Sets: 25.659 million eggs, compared to 25.727 million a week ago; Placements: 21.407 million head, compared to 20.329 million last week

Kentucky: Sets: 7.927 million eggs, compared to 8.128 million a week ago; Placements: 5.891 million head, compared to 5.996 million last week

Missouri: Sets: 8.99 million eggs, unchanged from a week ago; Placements: 5.517 million head, compared to 5.529 million last week

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 13.768 million eggs, compared to 13.76 million a week ago; Placements: 12.241 million head, compared to 13.243 million last week
