Another week of increases for broiler sets, placements

Chicken supplies will likely continue to grow in the coming weeks.
The USDA says 255.581 million broiler-type eggs were set into incubators, surging 3.011 million on the week and 2% on the year. Average hatchability was 79.4%.
197.431 million broiler-type chicks were placed into meat production, 492,000 larger than the previous week and 3% above a year ago.
Those birds will start heading to market in mid-May.
The USDA’s updated annual broiler production estimate is out May 10th.

Arkansas: Sets: 27.132 million eggs, compared to 27.062 million the week before; Placements: 21.648 million head, compared to 22.304 million the prior week
Kentucky: Sets: 7.989 million eggs, compared to 7.858 million the week before; Placements: 6.022 million head, compared to 5.919 million the prior week
Missouri: Sets: 9.185 million eggs, compared to 9.184 million the week before; Placements: 5.952 million head, compared to 5.745 million the prior week
California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 16.142 million eggs, compared to 16.313 million the week before; Placements: 13.861 million head, compared to 14.083 million the prior week
