Another year of drought for farmers?

Eastern Iowa farmer Lance Lillibridge says drought is his biggest concern heading into the 2024 growing season.

“We are super dry and we need moisture in a bad way. We’ve had about an inch of rain this fall and very little snow. It’s problematic.”

He tells Brownfield he’s had above average yields the last two years despite some abnormally dry conditions, however, “I’m not sure about doing it three years in a row. I think we’ve utilized about every extra drop of water that we’ve had as far as subsoil moisture.”

Lillibridge raises corn and soybeans in Benton County.
