An Arkansas farmer says he’s nearly finished with harvest
Harvest is winding down for northeast Arkansas farmer Brad Doyle.
“In our area soybean yields were average or slightly above average,” he says. “We did have delays in planting in the spring. We get our highest yields when we plant early- to mid-April and we finished planting in late June. So, it was a long planting season, but we are finally wrapping up soybean harvest this week.”
He tells Brownfield dry conditions this harvest will help going into the 2022 season.
“There will be a lot of opportunity to no-till plant next spring,” he says. “That allows us to get in the field earlier. As soon as those soil temperatures warm up, we will be hopefully, fingers crossed, in the field in early- to mid-April.”
Doyle is vice president of the American Soybean Association and grows soybeans, rice, and wheat near Weiner, Arkansas.
