Arkansas crops: corn, soybeans 73% rated good to excellent

Planting in Arkansas is nearing completion and crops are progressing well.

Soybeans are 93 percent planted, 88 percent emerged, 32 percent blooming, and 3 percent setting pods.  Seventy-three percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.  Cotton is 97 percent planted, 92 percent emerged, 15 percent squaring, with 72 percent rated good to excellent.  Corn is 21 percent silking and 1 percent in the dough stage with 73 percent rated good to excellent.  Rice is 99 percent emerged and 81 percent rated good to excellent.

Peanuts are 96 percent planted, 85 percent emerged, and 3 percent pegged. Eighty-two percent of the crop is rated good to excellent. 

Winter wheat is 93 percent coloring, 34 percent harvested, and 61 percent rated good to excellent.

The first cutting of hay is 61 percent complete.  Hay is rated 60 percent good to excellent, pastures are 69 percent rated good to excellent, and vegetables are 51 percent good to excellent. 

Topsoil moisture is rated 94 percent and subsoil moisture is rated 92 percent adequate to surplus.
