Arkansas crops mostly good despite dry week

It was a mostly dry week for Arkansas farmers, with almost no rainfall but most crops are doing well.

Twenty-seven percent of the corn is in excellent condition, with 52% in good and 17% in fair condition.  Ninety-five percent of the corn is in the dough stage, with 88% dented and 55% mature.  The corn harvest has started, and 4% of the corn for grain is in the bin.

Twenty-six percent of the state’s cotton is in excellent condition, with 50% rated good and 18% fair.  All of the cotton is squaring and 93% of the crop is setting bolls.  28% of the bolls are opening.

Forty-one percent of the peanut crops is rated excellent, with 46% rated good and 9% fair.  One percent of the crop has been dug.

Twenty-eight percent of the Arkansas rice crop is in excellent condition, with 50% rated good and 19% rated fair.  Thirty-two percent of the crop is mature, and the harvest is underway with 2% of the crop in.

Sixteen percent of the state’s soybeans are in excellent condition, with 50% rated good and 19% rated fair.  All of the soybeans have been blooming with 93% are setting pods.  Twenty-eight percent of the crop is coloring and 10% are already dropping leaves.  Two percent of the soybeans have reached maturity.

The all-hay condition ratings are 9% excellent, 45% good, and 36% fair, with similar ratings for pastureland.
