Arkansas farmers continue rapid planting pace this spring

Arkansas farmers made huge planting progress this last week.  Seventy percent of the corn crop is planted with 42 percent emerged.  Both made significant advancements from the previous week.  Forty-four percent of rice has been planted with 15 percent emerged.  Twenty-six percent of soybeans have been planted with 9 percent emerged.  Two percent of cotton and five percent of peanuts have been planted. 

The winter wheat crop is rated 59 percent good to excellent with 46 percent of the crop headed.  Alfalfa hay is rated 23 percent good and six percent of the first hay cutting is complete.  Thirty-five percent of pastures are rated good to excellent. 

Topsoil moisture is rated 94 percent adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is rated 88 percent adequate to surplus.
