As companies push 2030 goals, Field to Market encourages farmers to seize new revenue streams
The Field to Market President says farmers can align cost-cutting measures this season with conservation projects in their value chain.
Carrie Volmer Sanders tells Brownfield, “Growers are compensated in a number of different ways for different things that they might be doing.”
“Maybe a farmer is working on water quality to have a better impact on water quality, or use less water, be more efficient with water, or sequester more carbon, or just have fewer carbon emissions,” she shares.
With thousands of companies working toward net-zero goals, Volmer Sanders says farmers should evaluate both suppliers and end markets for opportunities.
“2030 is right around the corner, so the companies that have those 2030 goals are going to be wanting to maybe focus on the supply chain in the U.S., which is easiest to target, think about corn, soy, and wheat,” she says.
She says Field to Market works to put data behind what farmers are doing as environmental stewards and collaborates throughout the supply chain to support long-term sustainability goals.
Nearly seven million acres have been enrolled in the organization’s FieldPrint Platform.
Brownfield interviewed Volmer Sanders during the recent Ohio Conservation Tillage and Technology Conference in Ada.
