As farm economy dips, some farmers look to expand production
A north central Illinois farmer says he’s still looking for ways to increase production in a down ag economy.
David Mool, who’s based in northern McLean County, says even with lower commodity prices he’s still investing in some product trials this year.
“We don’t do a lot, but you’re always kind of looking, you know, to improve different application timings, different types of applications.” He says, “With the prices per bushel being where it’s at, we’re looking for every bushel per acre we can grow. You know, anything that can enhance that a little bit we try to take a look at.”
He tells Brownfield this season’s micronutrient trials are showing promise, but now…
“Marketing is gonna be a little bit harder this year.” He says, “Supplies are plentiful, you know, on both the corn and soybean side. There’s no early bids, no incentives, you know to get the crop to town.”
Mool says he plans to store as much of his crop on farm as possible in hopes of a price jump later in the marketing year.
