ASA leader says MFP payments will help many farmers ‘survive’
A farmer-leader of the American Soybean Association says soy growers appreciate the Trump Administration’s efforts to offset damages caused by tariffs.
Bret Davis of Delaware, Ohio says the Market Facilitation Program payments will help keep many farmers in business.
“We do not want a handout from the government,” Davis says. “But the way we were directly affected by the tariff, a little over a year ago, this is something that we have to have to survive.”
Davis says ASA hopes for a positive resolution to the trade war with China.
“We have farmers who feel it’s ‘stay the course’, and we have farmers who say ‘this is enough of this’,” he says. “What we come back to is, we don’t want tariffs, we want free trade.”
Davis says the MFP payments will be especially helpful to farmers, like himself, who struggled to get their crops planted this spring. He says it’s the toughest year he’s had in his 40-plus years of farming.

Need something for the PP acres . MFP program does nothing for the ones that did not plant they will be hurt the worse .
No payments under this program for all the farmers that couldn’t get anything planted due to the flood. I realize this program is a market value loss program not a disaster program. I didn’t really want it to flood.
