ASA touts Senate’s farm bill draft

The CEO of the American Soybean Association says he’s encouraged by the Senate’s farm bill framework.

Steve Censky tells Brownfield, “This is a necessary step so we can finally get a full five-year farm bill done. We are very appreciative of Senator Boozman and the Ag Committee.”

He says the framework includes key priorities for soybean farmers with investments in the farm safety net, conservation, rural development, research, and market opportunities.

But Censky says there’s also room for growth.

“We would have liked to have seen year-round E15 that gets over the finish line without doing damage to bio-based diesel demand or undermining the RFS, not giving out a bunch of small refinery exemptions.”

Censky says ASA supports language in the Senate farm bill that would increase funding for the USDA’s BioPreferred program, which helps commercialize bio-based products.
