Assessing the used equipment market

A sales representative with Sullivan Auctioneers says the used equipment market has been slow this month.

Tim Meyer tells Brownfield prices have remained steady.

“Equipment prices of really, really late model equipment is probably the bargain right now if the farmer really wants to spend the money,” he said. “But it’s hard to justify anything between now and harvest if you don’t really need it.”

He says there could be some more equipment put onto the marketplace soon.

“Between now and August by some dealer auctions,” he said. “I think there’s some hesitation out there from those folks, but I don’t foresee a big rally in the equipment market. I think there’s going to be buying opportunities from here moving forward.”

Meyer says the lack of sales has mirrored the farmland market.
