Average August forecast likely to benefit crops

A meteorologist says he expects August to deliver favorable weather conditions for most of the Corn Belt.

Seth Bonhoff tells Brownfield…

“We’re heading back towards that average.”  He says, “It’s gonna be a little more predictable, which makes my life easier. We’re not going to, I don’t think, have so many extremes that we did during last fall, last winter, and then here into the spring and summer.”

He says a return to averages should bode well as crops enter the peak of grain fill.

“You’re going to see your temperatures be about where they should be.”  He says, “You’re going to see an average number of systems. You’re still going to have activity. You’re still going to have severe weather here at times during the fall. But it’s going to be a lot more what we’re used to seeing as opposed to all at once or nothing for months at a time.”

Bonhoff says the pattern will eventually shift as a strengthening El Nino pattern is expected to bring a drier and warmer late fall and winter.
