Aviation coalition calls for consistent, flexible 45Z guidance

A coalition representing aviation organizations is calling on the Biden administration to provide consistent and flexible guidance for sustainable aviation fuel tax credits.

Larry Schafer is with World Energy, a member of the Business Aviation Coalition for Sustainable Aviation Fuel.

“We need to make sure that the tax credit is something that we can use for domestic production of sustainable aviation fuels, and agriculture is very much a big part of that.”

He tells Brownfield the coalition wants USDA to focus on outcomes rather than prescriptive and exclusionary lists of acceptable feedstocks.

“Not every farm is the same across the United States, so farmers understand their practices (and) how they can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. So we should give credit at the individual level and at the county level for the practices that they achieve at that level.”

The 45Z sustainable aviation fuel tax credit that goes into effect January 1st will give SAF producers up to $1.75 per gallon if they are creating the fuel using feedstocks that generate low or zero greenhouse gas emissions.
