Bankers discuss ‘navigating through volatile times’

corn southeast nebraska 6-15At the Agricultural Bankers Conference in Kansas City, lenders are discussing how to navigate through volatile times, for both themselves and their farmer-customers.

Mike Hein with Liberty Bank in Durant, Iowa chairs the Ag Bankers Committee.

“I’ve been a little reluctant to surrender and say that we’re heading for some tough times,” Hein says, “But if these livestock prices show the volatility that they have in the last month or so, and if these grain prices stay where they are—yeah, it’s going to be a difficult time. Margins are very, very tight and we may have some operators—we probably do have some operators—operating in the red at this point.”

Hein expanded on those comments in this interview with Brownfield.
