Barometer: more farmers say they’ll get the COVID-19 vaccine
More farmers plan to get vaccinated when a COVID-19 vaccine is available, according to the latest Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer.
Jim Mintert says the number of farmers planning to get a vaccine has increased over the past few months.
“There’s been a lot of interest about the general population as well as subgroups in the population but we haven’t seen anything that focused specifically on the agricultural sector so we thought it would be interesting to learn more about where ag producers were at,” he says. “When we asked that question in October, 24 percent of the people in the survey said they would get the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible. That number was rising in November and December and then it really jumped here in January to 58 percent.”
He says as the vaccines have become more available the interest in the ag sector has also increased.
