BASF agronomist gives update on soybean conditions
An agronomist says soybeans conditions have been variable across parts of the Corn Belt.
Bill Backhaus with BASF says there’s some concern about disease pressure in Iowa. “With all that early cool and wet environment we were planting into, what comes in but sudden death syndrome. Just starting to see (SDS) pop into southern Iowa.”
He tells Brownfield white mold could be problematic in Minnesota. “I was just talking to a guy from southwest Minnesota about white mold tolerances there. As we look at that, it’s going to be present and it’s going to be out there again. We’re going to have some challenges with that.”
Backhaus says he’s been pleasantly surprised by the soybean crop in South Dakota. “As you get further west just past Yankton over in that world, really things look decent.”
He spoke to Brownfield at BASF’s field event near Story City, Iowa on Tuesday.
