BASF expects EPA approval soon for new weed control options ahead of spring planting

Farmers should have a few new weed control management options this spring, pending EPA approval.

Technical Marketing Manager for Corn Herbicides at BASF, Josh Putman, tells Brownfield the registration process is picking back up after the shutdown.

“We just got word that with both Voraxor herbicide and Zidua PLUS herbicide, any day now, we can get the registration, he shares. “Once we get the EPA registration, the state registrations will follow, and you’ll be hearing more about this.”

He says starting a season clean and keeping fields clean can be foundational in weed control.

“It’s all about having a foundational herbicide layer, followed by a strong post with a layered residual in there,” he says.” You really need to control weeds throughout the growing season with those residuals, because once the weeds come out of the ground, that’s when they’re extremely difficult.”

He says BASF is also currently working with universities to research how its current lineup can be incorporated into see-and-spray management strategies.

Brownfield interviewed Putman during the recent 2025 NAFB Convention.
