BASF investing in on-the-farm R&D

BASF was back in full force at the 2024 Farm Progress Show, showcasing the fruits of two hundred and fifty thousand acres of research plots. Brady Spangenberg, Director of Marketing for Crop Protection tells Brownfield BASF is investing its research and development (R&D) dollars in the places the crops are grown.

BASF is introducing new Xitavo soybean germplasm for 2025. Surtain herbicide for corn is a new product for 2025. It features innovative solid encapsulation of Kixor with an additional dose of Zidua for residual control in corn.

Spangenberg tells Brownfield there were lessons to be learned in 2024. Weather is changing and in growing seasons like this, farmers will have less time to be in the field so need to select a herbicide program that activates quickly and holds for more than a couple of weeks. He suggests talking to your retailer and agronomist about how those products fit on your farm.

Another opportunity Spangenberg suggests farmers take the opportunity to explore is to visit https://www.revxfields.com/ . RevXFields is a large-scale fungicide trial program with nearly 2,000 corn and soybean farmers participating. They are using Veltyma®, Revytek® and Revylok™ fungicides in their own fields and sharing the results. He says this is a great place to learn about what works well in your area.

Spangenberg said BASF knows farming is the biggest job on Earth and wants to partner with farmers in their fields; in their geography.
