Iowa FFA’s outgoing state president says the organization has made a lasting impact on his life.

Collin Bauer tells Brownfield he’s traveled nationally and internationally over the last year meeting with policy makers and ag producers. He says some of his stops included Australia, Spain, and Portugal.

“I got to visit some farms and see agriculture firsthand in another country and in several different parts of the world. That was fascinating and super cool to see. We also got to talk to some people on the policy side that are U.S. ambassadors over there.”

Bauer, an Audubon High School graduate and current sophomore at Iowa State University, says his advice to new FFA members is to “say yes.”

“Whether that’s through a service project your advisor asks you to do, whether that means you’re going to leave the state, whether that means you’re going to enter a new contest or talk in front of a bunch of people.”

Bauer is the son of Michael and Jennifer Bauer. He has an older brother named Logan as well as a twin brother named Carson. He says he grew up on a beef and row crop farm in the Exira area that not only introduced him to agriculture, but also gave him a passion for the industry.

Bauer spoke to Brownfield at the 97th Iowa FFA State Convention, which concludes Tuesday, April 15th. The interview can be heard below.
