A new partnership between Bayer Crop Science and bp could increase access to the biofuels market for farmers.

Chad Bilby, biofuel crops innovation and commercial lead at Bayer, says the collaboration will commercialize camelina to produce biodiesel, renewable diesel, and sustainable aviation fuel.

“It has a lot of great properties that allow it to be pretty resilient in the soil, but it also has a high oil content,” he says. “Because of the fact that it’s a lower input crop, the lower the carbon intensity score, the greater the value.”

He tells Brownfield, “We want to focus on building a pipeline for these crops and leaning into our seed innovation and technology to continue to drive yield and drive efficiencies. That will help diversify the operation and create new opportunities for farmers.”

Bilby says the partnership represents Bayer’s commitment to invest in the renewable fuels market and strengthening future demand for producers.
