Bayer R&D chief says collaboration is key
Ag innovators heard from one of the largest ag companies in the world that collaboration is the key to getting farmers the products they want and need. Adrian Percy, the head of research and development with Bayer CropScience, served as keynote speaker Tuesday at the 2017 Ag Innovations Showcase at the Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis. He says that science and technology are moving forward at such a fast pace, there’s no way a single company can keep up with it.
“So, what is important is that we do certain things very well. We have, for instance, a very structured approach to registering products. Other smaller companies may not have that ability to do that. So, there are opportunities, for instance, to team up with a smaller company on a specific product or a specific technology and get it through the regulatory system.”
Percy tells Brownfield Ag News that Bayer is taking the opportunity to collaborate with all kinds of different companies, “It could be universities. It could be more start-up companies coming out of universities. It could be small to medium-sized companies and even the bigger companies that we compete against in the marketplace. We really believe that in today’s science and technology environment, collaboration is KEY.”
