Bayer seed production facility not concerned about supply despite challenging growing season
A regional soybean processing facility is not concerned about seed supplies for 2025 despite a difficult growing season.
Dan Wertish is the site manager for the Bayer Commercial Soybean Production plant near Redwood Falls, Minnesota, which packages nearly 3 million seed bags that get distributed to about a dozen Midwestern states annually.
“We don’t have any concerns on supply. We grow enough to mitigate any risk that may happen during a growing season.”
Wertish says about 60 percent of the soybeans produced at the facility are Asgrow brand.
DEKALB Asgrow technical agronomist Steven Regan tells Brownfield contract growers dealt with weather extremes this year.
“Certainly been unique. We started out with the wettest spring that we’ve had on record in western Minnesota, and we finished with the driest beginning to fall on record in western Minnesota.”
The Bayer soybean production facility footprint consists of 870 fields across 190 different seed growers.
