Bayer’s next generation of soybeans planned for 2027

Bayer’s North American soybean business lead says the company’s next generation of soybeans will help farmers in the fight against resistant weeds.

Kacy Perry says the target launch for the HT4 soybeans is 2027.

“So HT4 actually brings five unique herbicide tolerant traits which is glyphosate, glufosinate and dicamba,” she says, “but then brings two more in 2-4-D and mesotrione, which is an HPPD inhibitor.”

She tells Brownfield the new varieties give farmers more options in-season.

“It’s so critical for farmers to have access to multiple modes of action in a soybean.”  She says, “So when we have five herbicide tolerances in one bean, it gives farmers a ton of application flexibility to really go after some of those resistant and tough to control weeds.”

Perry says the company plans to introduce proprietary herbicide formulations to accompany HT4 soybeans.

HT4 soybeans were one of several upcoming technologies recently showcased by Bayer at their 2024 Innovation Update in Chicago.
