Beck’s research shows yield advantage with planting early in corn and soybeans
A regional agronomy manager at Beck’s Hybrids says longstanding research data shows that planting date has an impact on yield.
Steve Gauck tells Brownfield, “PFR data for 25 years on corn and over 25 years on soybeans shows there’s an advantage there. There’s actually less of a penalty in planting soybeans early than there is in corn.”
He says growers should be looking for ways to maximize planter efficiency in 2026.
“Maybe you can’t afford to spend any money on upgrades this year, let’s take a look at some of these no cost changes,” he says. “Planting depth, planting date, closing wheel settings that can really make a difference in yield at the end of the year.”
Gauck says the company plans to complete additional PRF testing on planting strategies in the new year.
