Beef export challenges to China continue
The U.S. Meat Export Federation says beef plants currently face some obstacles getting exports into China.
USMEF’s Joe Schuele tells Brownfield, “China has not been renewing or adding registrations for U.S. beef plants since all the way back in March,” he said. “The majority of our U.S. beef plants are not currently eligible to ship to China.”
He says the lack of eligibility has nearly halted U.S. beef shipments to China. “The April numbers were down about 70% year-over-year. As more and more beef plants come up for their registration renewal, more and more of them will be ineligible.”
Schuele says there are a few U.S. beef plants that currently have access to China, but they face a 32% tariff.
