Beef producers weather “crazy” year marked by trade turbulence
Beef producers are reflecting on a year of ups and downs.
Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association executive director Kaitlyn Root says 2026 has been kind of crazy.
“I think that happens when new administrations are coming in at the national level, there’s a lot of change. Sometimes there’s some disruptions.”
She tells Brownfield trade and tariffs were prominent issues.
“And in the beef industry, ensuring that we have equal fair trade with these other countries. And trying to explain how important exports and imports are for the beef industry.”
Root says a bright spot this year has been strong beef demand in the face of high retail prices.
The Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association will hold its annual Convention this weekend in St. Cloud.
