Beginning Farmer and Rancher Opportunity Act of 2017

Two U.S. representatives are looking to improve legislation designed to recruit and support the next generation of farmers.

Minnesota Democrat Tim Walz and Nebraska Republican Jeff Fortenberry recently introduced the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Opportunity Act of 2017.

Both lawmakers were instrumental in adding provisions to the 2013 Act incorporated in the last Farm Bill.

Walz says the U.S. must ensure the next generation of agriculture can provide a safe and abundant food supply. He says this legislation provides young Americans with the training and tools to take up and keep up farms of their own.

The bill helps new producers access credit, increases land access for beginning farmers, invests in farm training programs, and provides assistance to veterans hoping to begin a life in farming.
