Biodiesel usage rises on farming operations, NSB says

A leader with the Nebraska Soybean Board says the usage of biodiesel on farming operations has been increasing.

Demand and utilization coordinator Wesley Wach says biodiesel is a cleaner option to petroleum-based diesel and helps reduce emissions. “In the past, especially like around when biodiesel first came about and people tried it out, I think they might have encountered some setbacks with it. But over the years, it’s just like your cell phone, you’ve seen the technology improve.”

He tells Brownfield NSB has hosted some biodiesel workshops. “A lot of what we’ve been doing is just busting some of those myths and connecting farmers with resources to answer any sort of questions or issues that come up with biodiesel.”

Wach says biodiesel has become a more than 2 billion gallon per year industry due in large part to soy-checkoff funded research and support.
