The chairman of the U.S. Senate Ag Committee says another bridge payment is needed to help farmers navigate the record high input costs.

John Boozman says more economic assistance was included in reconciliation, but he’s not expecting that to pass anytime soon.

“We’re talking to the president and the administration about trying to get those dollars in the farm bill or on the floor separately.”

He says farm program updates in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act provided a $68 billion boost to the farm safety net, including higher reference prices that farmers are expected to see this fall.

“The amount that is going to be paid out with the risk management tools that farmers have is going to be significantly higher than ever before. The problem is the need is greater than ever before. We definitely need another bridge payment. We’re working with Senator Hoeven on that.”

Boozman says agriculture is encouraged to reach out to their lawmakers to move additional economic assistance.
