Boozman releases updated farm bill draft with E15 expansion, SNAP revisions

U.S. Senate Ag Committee Chairman John Boozman released an updated draft farm bill late Friday that would allow nationwide year-round E15 sales and revises state cost-sharing requirements in the nutrition program.

The bill permanently authorizes nationwide year-round sales of E15, expanding consumer fuel choice, strengthening domestic biofuels and providing long-term regulatory certainty.

It also requires states to contribute a percentage of the cost of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits beginning in fiscal year 2029 if their payment error rate is six percent or greater. And it also requires states with a payment error rate equal or greater than 10 percent to pay 20 percent of the cost of SNAP benefits starting in fiscal year 2031. These are one year delays from what was proposed from the intial draft.

The U.S. Senate Ag Committee is scheduled to mark up a farm bill on Thursday, August 6, before the August recess.
