Bosse: U.S. dairy poised to lead global trade increases
An ag economist says U.S. dairy farmers have a global advantage when it comes to additional trade opportunities.
Dan Bosse with Ag Resource tells Brownfield, “Europe cannot expand anymore because of environmental and because of issues of high grain costs and other issues regulatorily speaking.”
“If I look at Oceania, New Zealand and Australia, maybe a little room yet to expand in in New Zealand, but I don’t think Australia really has it,” he says.
But Bosse says growth needs to have supportive trade policies.
“The U.S. dairy industry is set to increase trade going forward,” he says. “The question is can I get politicians to buy into it and can we get enough sales overseas? I’m hopeful that we can.”
He’s bullish additional trade relationships could push milk future prices near $30 per hundredweight.
Bosse says Chinese grain buyers have started to front load grain purchases in fear of potential tariffs from a new Trump administration and uncertainty remains with the potential for some trade turbulence
Brownfield’s Larry Lee recently interviewed Bosse during the recent World Dairy Expo.
